Introduit en 1968, l’Ellipse ne doit pas son design au hasard puisque qu’il est basé sur le nombre d’or, considéré comme la “divine proportion” que l’on retrouve dans la nature et dans les plus grandes oeuvres architecturales ou artistiques. 

Manufacturés par le cadranier Singer pour Patek Philippe, les cadrans dispose d'un contraste à la fois extrêmement simple et saisissant entre les index et les aiguilles en or jaune et le cadran bleu à la finition soleillée.

Notre exemplaire est équipé d'un cadran MK3, reconnaissable grâce aux index et aiguilles bombés et aux symboles "Sigma σ" visible sur le cadran à 6h. Le symbole "Sigma σ" fut introduit dans les années 70 par L’Association pour la Promotion Industrielle de l’Or (ou “APRIOR”) pour mettre en avant les manufactures prestigieuses et signifie donc que les index sont en or massif.

Cette version de l’Ellipse appelée “Jumbo” est équipé d’un mouvement mécanique à remontage automatique à micro-rotor, le calibre 240 qui fait son apparition dans ce modèle référence 3738 en 1977 soit neuf ans après le lancement de la collection.

Il s’agit de la première génération à remontage automatique introduisant le légendaire calibre 240 à micro-rotor. Véritable prouesse horlogère, ce calibre manufacture permet de conserver un boîtier avec une finesse inégalée tout en fournissant une réserve de marche d'environ 45h.
