Lancée en 1956, la Day-Date fut la première montre à afficher, en même temps, le jour et la date à travers une ouverture dans le cadran. Rolex ne sait jamais caché d’être associé à des personnalités influentes, dont un certain nombre de présidents, ce qui a d’ailleurs valu à ce modèle ce surnom.

D'un diamètre de 36mm, la référence 1803 fut produite du début des années 1960 à 1977. C'est la première génération de Day-Date a disposé d'une production étendue sur plus de 15 ans. La principale caractéristique de ce modèle tient son cadran bombé dit "Pie-pan" et à son verre plexiglas bombé. Ce cadran brun, surnommé 'Ghost Cappucino' ou 'Ghost Caramel' est particulièrement rare car les inscriptions sur celui-ci disparaissent selon l'orientation lumineuse.

Le calibre Rolex 1555 dispose d'une réserve de marche d'environ 42 heures et n'est pas équipé du système de mise à date rapide à la couronne, fonctionnalité apparaissant avec la référence suivante 18038 et le calibre 3055.
