Cartier is undoubtedly one of the most renowned and influential jewelry and watch brands in both fields. It is also primarily recognized as a brand more focused on design than the chronometric performance of its movements, like other traditional watchmakers. Iconic models such as the Tank, Santos, Baignoire and Panthère are still celebrated today for their timeless aesthetics, setting Cartier apart in the watchmaking world.

The Tank is Cartier's most iconic model. Introduced in 1917, but not put on sale until the end of the war in 1919, its design is inspired by a Tank Renault FT-17 seen from above. Certain elements have remained unchanged since its creation: the two vertical stretchers that extend the case and allow integration of the bracelet, the railway minute track and Roman numerals on the dial, and the sapphire cabochon on the winding crown. 

The model we have here is a slight departure from the rule, as it does not feature the iconic chemin de fer minute track. These slight variations over the years preserve the historical features while playing with the constraints to create new models.

This model, created exclusively for the European market and crafted in platinum, celebrates 170 years of Cartier and is naturally limited to 170 pieces.

The main feature of this model is its blue-gray dial, whose design is inspired by the Art Deco period. The dial's laser-engraved patterns and shades of blue add depth and life to the dial, depending on the angle of inclination and the light. The dial is enhanced by four oversized Arabic numerals and rhodium-plated steel sword-shaped hands.

This model is equipped with the hand-wound mechanical caliber 1917MC, which has a 38-hour power reserve.

The watch is delivered with box, outer case, international warranty card and manual.

Created in 1917 and launched two years later, the Cartier Tank has established itself as one of the most influential watch designs of the 20th century. Inspired by the silhouette of the Renault FT-17 tank, it has stood the test of time, becoming the timepiece of choice for cultural icons such as Princess Diana, Muhammad Ali, and Andy Warhol.

The 78086 model, produced from 1973 onwards, is a direct descendant of the Tank known as the “Louis Cartier.” Cartier mainly produced it in yellow gold, but a tiny fraction of the production—less than 10% of the recorded examples—was made in 18-karat white gold, often grouped in tight ranges of serial numbers, a sign of batch production. These versions are now among the most sought-after.

The model adopts the purest aesthetics of the Tank Louis: a white enamel dial with elongated Roman numerals, a minute track, blued hands, and the classic crown adorned with a blue cabochon. At 6 o'clock, each dial bears the inscription “Swiss” or “Paris.” Those bearing the word “Swiss” were sold in the Cartier branch in New York, while those bearing the word “Paris” were sold in London and Paris. The rectangular case, made of white gold, has balanced and very refined proportions, measuring 23 × 30 mm, in the grand tradition of Cartier's ultra-thin city watches.

The watch is powered by a hand-wound mechanical movement, caliber 78-1, faithful to the spirit of the historic Tank watches.

The Tank Louis ref. 96065, introduced in the 1980s, replaced the previous ref. 78086 and was a direct descendant of the Tank known as the “Louis Cartier.” 
The white enamel color dial of the previous generation was replaced by a guilloché decoration. All the other characteristic features were retained: elongated Roman numerals, a minute track, blued hands and the classic crown adorned with a blue cabochon. The rectangular case, made of yellow gold, has balanced and highly refined proportions, measuring 23 × 30 mm, in the grand tradition of Cartier's ultra-thin city watches.

This ‘ultra-thin’ model is equipped with the Cartier 96 caliber, a derivative of the Frédéric Piguet Cal. 21 caliber, which allows for a case thickness of only 4.2 mm. It is also one of the ‘Pre-CPCP’ models produced before the launch of the ‘Cartier Paris Collection Privée’ in 1998. This collection revisits Cartier's archives, bringing back into fashion historic models that had been overlooked for years, from the Tortue to the Tank Basculante.
Models prior to the CPCP do not bear the word “Paris” under the Cartier signature at 12 o'clock and feature the signature “Swiss Made” at 6 o'clock instead of “Swiss.”

While the Cartier Tank Collection Privée models are more famous, this 96065 is a lesser-known model that laid the foundations for this collection, while remaining faithful to the spirit of the historic Tank watches.

The watch is powered by an ultra-thin hand-wound mechanical movement, the P838 caliber, launched in 1962 by Jaeger-LeCoultre and used in Cartier Tank ultra-thin dress watches before being replaced by the ultra-thin 96 caliber movements (based on Piguet 21) in the 1980s and 1990s for ultra-thin versions such as reference [96065](https://geneva.41watch.com/catalogue/cartier/tank/2124-tank-louis-96065-pre-cpcp).

Comes with its original Cartier folding clasp and a Cartier box.

Cartier introduced in 1928 their first jump hour watch, the Tank à Guichets, as a refined iteration of the iconic Tank Louis model, with only a handful made for 4 years.

Cartier revisited the Tank à Guichets on three different occasions, each produced in a limited quantities. releases. In 1996, an edition in yellow gold, pink gold, and platinum, distinguished by their 12 o'clock crown, were produced at just 3 examples each. The following year, in celebration of Cartier's 150th anniversary, a run of 150 platinum models featuring a ruby cabochon crown was released. Subsequently, in 2006, Cartier launched the Collection Privée Cartier Paris, unveiling a rose gold edition limited to just 100 pieces.

The example we have here was unveiled in 1997 to commemorate Cartier's 150th anniversary, epitomizes the allure of mystery in watchmaking. Its sophisticated design transcends convention, offering a unique interpretation of the iconic Tank silhouette.

Characterized by its broader dimensions and distinct chamfered edges, this platinum timepiece exudes elegance with a vertical brushed finish and a signature ruby cabochon crown. The jump hour complication, is presented within a central aperture at twelve, while the minutes display features a circular arc design with a central arrow. 

Powered by the 9752 MC mechanical jump hour caliber, made by Piaget for Cartier, this watch gets a 43h power reserve and beats at 21600 vibrations per hour.

This watch is delivered with a Cartier service invoice from 2024, travel pouch and its Cartier white gold deployant clasp.

The Tank is Cartier's most iconic model. It first appeared in 1917, but only went on sale at the end of the war in 1919. Its design was inspired by a Renault FT-17 Tank seen from above. Certain elements have remained unchanged since its creation: the two vertical brancards that extend the case and allow the strap to be integrated, the railway minute track and Roman numerals on the dial, and the sapphire cabochon on the winding crown. 

The model shown here was introduced in 2023 as part of the Cartier Privé collection (a collector's collection that celebrates and explores the House's legendary models through limited-edition, numbered watches).

This model, made in platinum with a leather strap, is limited to 200 pieces. Its case measures 32.6 x 25.7 mm and features classic design elements, with a faceted glass adding depth to the whole and a vertical brushed finish on the dial for a more modern feel than the classic white/cream. Since the late 1970s, Cartier has used a secret signature on its dials to prevent counterfeiting. Here, this signature hidden in the number VII reads ‘1917’ (instead of the usual ‘Cartier’), paying subtle homage to the year of its birth.

This model is equipped with the hand-wound mechanical calibre 070, which has a power reserve of 38 hours.

The watch is delivered with its box, outer case, international warranty card and manual.

First introduced in 1921, just two years after the debut of the Tank Louis Cartier, the elegantly elongated Tank Cintrée has always been a recurring presence in the brand's collection. 

This special piece, exclusively reserved for Cartier's valued customers, released in **2021** to celebrate the **100th anniversary** of the Tank Cintrée, was produced in a limited series of just **150** numbered pieces. True to the Cintrée's distinctive design and its heritage as a model made in limited numbers, this special edition confirms its iconic status among Cartier aficionados.

This model, in 18-carat yellow gold, measures 46 mm from lug to lug and 23 mm in width, for an attractive presence on the wrist. All the model's characteristic elements are present here, with the eggshell dial, blued steel Breguet hands and striking elongated black Roman numerals. The vintage-inspired dial dispenses with the “Swiss Made” inscription usually found on current models, and houses the caliber 9780 MC movement, manufactured by Jaeger-LeCoultre, which boasts a 36-hour power reserve.

The watch is delivered with its box, sur-box, international warranty card and manual.
