The Rolex Cosmograph was launched in 1963 for race car drivers, and the “Daytona” name appeared a year later when Rolex became a sponsor of the 24 Hours of Daytona race in Daytona Beach, Florida. 

Introduced in 2016, the 116500LN model brought several improvements and new features compared to its predecessor, the 116520.
The main innovation was the introduction of a black ceramic bezel, which replaced the graduated steel bezel of the previous model. Ceramic is renowned for its scratch resistance and durability, which aligns perfectly with Rolex’s vision of always offering technical improvements that enhance the models’ durability over time.

Equipped with the Caliber 4130, this movement features a 72-hour power reserve, a 44% increase over the previous generation. This improvement is due to the increased size of the mainspring, made possible by the space freed up through the use of a single chronograph module.

Introduced in 1972, the Royal Oak ref. 5402 marked a major turning point in the history of watchmaking. Designed by Gérald Genta, its bold design—inspired by a diving helmet—upended established conventions with a 39-mm steel case, an octagonal bezel, and an integrated bracelet. Nicknamed “Jumbo,” this unprecedented creation redefined the concept of the luxury sports watch.

Building on this iconic model, Audemars Piguet developed more compact variations over the decades. Produced in the late 1970s and early 1980s, the Royal Oak Square Lady ref. 6010ST (later 66010ST) stands out as a rarer and more original interpretation of the model, distinguished by its square case—a unique variation on the Royal Oak design that nevertheless retains the collection’s fundamental aesthetic codes.

Despite this different geometry, the watch incorporates the model’s characteristic elements: an octagonal bezel, an integrated bracelet, and a “Petite Tapisserie” patterned dial, offering visual continuity with the other Royal Oak models. This version, designed for a female clientele, offers a more jewel-like and refined take on the original concept, while retaining its sporty identity.

The steel case features compact dimensions, suited to a woman’s wrist, and benefits from the alternating satin-finished and polished surfaces that are the hallmark of the Royal Oak. As is often the case in the collection, the integrated bracelet accentuates the watch’s presence on the wrist, beyond its actual proportions.

The Royal Oak Square Lady 6010ST is equipped with a quartz movement, caliber 2610, a typical choice of the era for this type of format, allowing for a very slim case while ensuring precision and ease of use.

Introduced in 1972, the first Royal Oak, ref. 5402, was designed by one of the most prolific watchmakers, Gerald Genta. Inspired by a diving helmet and designed in a single night, this model was unprecedented at the time: a 39mm steel case that earned it the nickname “Jumbo” and an impressive price tag of CHF 3,750, more than ten times the price of a Rolex Submariner.

Alongside the production of the iconic Royal Oak, a smaller version of this watch was launched around 1976–1977, the Ref. 4100, featuring a 36mm case and an automatic movement. Since quartz movements were extremely popular at the time, it was only natural that Audemars Piguet would join the trend by creating new lines, notably the Ref. 6001 and 6005.

It wasn’t until 1980 that a “true” Royal Oak was equipped with a quartz movement, and the collection expanded to include at least 59 models, reaching a peak in 1986 when quartz movements accounted for half of the watches produced by Audemars Piguet.

The model we have here, reference 56303ST, features a 33mm steel case just 5.7mm thick. Its dial features a “Petite Tapisserie” pattern in rhodium gray, typical of Royal Oaks from that era. The octagonal case shape and integrated bracelet make the watch appear larger than its dimensions would suggest, while maintaining the proportions of its iconic original design. 

This model is equipped with the ultra-thin 2612 quartz movement.

Introduced in 2016 with a black ceramic bezel (LN added to the reference number), the reference 116519 is a 40mm white gold model powered by the Rolex Caliber 4130 and fitted with an Oysterflex bracelet that combines the durability of a metal bracelet with the comfort of an elastomer strap, making it one of the most comfortable rubber bracelets available on the market. 
The inscription “Daytona” first appeared on the dial of the Rolex reference 6239 in 1963. This model was also the first to feature a bezel with a tachymeter scale, a feature still seen on current models. The example we have here is one of the last produced, as they have been replaced by the new reference 126519LN in 2023.

Developed in the 1930s in collaboration with the Geneva-based watchmaker Louis Cottier, the Worldtime model displays the time in major cities around the world simultaneously thanks to an ingenious system of city discs and a 24-hour ring. Today, Patek Philippe is one of the most renowned interpreters of this tradition, continuing the legacy with watches that have become true benchmarks for collectors.

The 5231G, introduced in 2019, follows in this tradition while showcasing one of the Manufacture’s rarest artistic skills: the cloisonné enamel dial. Each piece features a hand-painted world map, requiring meticulous work that involves outlining the decorative areas with fine gold wires, then filling them with colored enamels before firing.

On this particular version, the composition highlights the Oceania region, offering a detailed representation of Australia, New Zealand, and East and Southeast Asia. This polychrome decoration, unique in its handcrafted execution, gives each dial its own distinct character while emphasizing the watch’s artistic nature.

The white gold case measures 38.5 mm in diameter, a perfectly balanced size for a complication watch. The slim bezel and elegantly curved lugs frame the dial, while the World Time system allows the local time to be adjusted using a pusher at 10 o’clock, simultaneously rotating the city and 24-hour discs.

The World Time 5231G is powered by the automatic Caliber 240 HU, an iconic Patek Philippe movement featuring a 22-karat gold micro-rotor. Slim and exquisitely decorated, it displays the time in 24 time zones while offering a power reserve of approximately 48 hours.

Following the enduring success of the Royal Oak, the brand launched a new collection in 2019 called Code 11.59, designed to embody a contemporary vision of watchmaking while maintaining the high standards of craftsmanship characteristic of the Le Brassus-based maison.

The collection takes its name from the moment just before midnight, 11:59, symbolizing the idea of a new day and a new chapter for the manufacture. It stands out for its particularly complex case architecture, blending round and octagonal shapes, as well as for its sophisticated work on the crystals and dials.

Reference 26393ST. OO.A348KB.01 corresponds to the Automatic Chronograph version in steel, recognizable by its elegant blue dial decorated with a finely guilloché concentric pattern. The chronograph counters are harmoniously arranged and paired with applied hour markers and white gold hands, offering excellent legibility while maintaining a contemporary aesthetic.

The steel case measures 41 mm in diameter and is distinguished by its multi-element construction. The middle section features an octagonal shape, a subtle homage to the Royal Oak, while the bezel and caseback are perfectly round. The highly domed, double-curved sapphire crystal is also one of the model’s technical hallmarks.

The watch is powered by the in-house automatic Caliber 4401, a column-wheel chronograph with vertical clutch fully developed by Audemars Piguet. Visible through the sapphire caseback, this modern movement offers a power reserve of approximately 70 hours and is distinguished by its meticulous finishing.

The watch comes with its box (outer cardboard box missing) and its original warranty card (Switzerland).
