Complications

Patek Philippe's Complications range includes models that are useful in everyday life, such as annual calendars, double time zones and world time watches.

Folding Clasp

The world time mechanism is an emblematic complication of the Patek Philippe Manufacture. It was developed in the 1930s by watchmaker Louis Cottier (1894-1966), who worked for Manufacture Patek Philippe throughout his career.

Introduced in 2016, the new case design of the 5230 is an evolution of the 5130 that is both modern with an enlarged diameter to 38.5 mm (the slim bezel allows the 5230 to appear larger than its diameter would suggest), yet inspired by the design of its illustrious forebear, the ultimate reference in universal hours, the reference 2523.

The watch is a limited edition of just 50 pieces, specially produced in honor of the 100th anniversary of King's Sign Watch - Taiwan's oldest watch retailer - and 50 years of collaboration with Patek Philippe.

The dial is turquoise blue, and the city disc highlights the capital Taipei in red instead of the usual Hong Kong. The hands are inspired by those on reference 2523, but more contemporary. The center of the dial features a magnificent hand-engraved guilloché motif inspired by a pocket watch on display at the Patek Philippe Museum.

On the back, the transparent caseback bears the inscription “King's Sign Watch 1973-2023 Patek Philippe” and reveals the 240 HU (HU “world time”) movement. This ultra-thin self-winding mechanical caliber is equipped with a micro-rotor and a patented Spiromax® balance-spring. It has a power reserve of at least 48 hours.

The watch is delivered with box, outer case, Patek Philippe certificate of origin, limited edition certificate, manuals and leather briefcase.

Introduced in 1996, this watch was the first Patek Philippe annual calendar. Its dial features roman applied numerals, luminova leaf hands and sub-dials indicate day, month and day/night. This model was replaced in 2005 with reference 5146 featuring now the moonphase.

The reference 5140 was naturally launched in right after the 3940 in **2006**.
At that time, the 5140 was only available in **white gold**, hence the G at the end of the reference. This model was a response to the market demand for bigger cases and a transition to Patek Philippe modern designs.
The case measures 37.2mm with a convex bezel, is well proportioned and fit perfectly on the wrist. The watch is powered by the automatic ultra-slim 240-Q base caliber that dates back to the 1970s with an off-center, 22K gold micro-rotor and features the souhgt-after **Geneva hallmark** used until 2009.

The watch comes as a full set including, outer-box, box, Patek Philippe certificate of origin, original booklets, setting stylus and plain caseback.

Introduced in 1985, this model was the response from Patek Philippe to the quartz crisis and was produced until 2006. Different variations have been observed during the 20 years plus of production which have been splitted in 3 main series with specific dials, typography, movements, hallmarks location... Our present example is part of the third and last serie recognizable by :
- the "σ Sigma σ" located at 6 inline with the minute track
- Modern serif font without serif
- Calibre updated to 240/114

The 5110P is the first modern Patek Philippe "World Time" to be produced in "a series" of quantities. The 37mm case housed an ultra-thin automatic movement, base caliber 240, using a 22 karat yellow-gold micro-rotor that can be admired through the sapphire back.

This new generation of World Time watches has an ingenious system, patented by Patek Philippe, that allows the hour hand to be adjusted by simply pressing a button located on the case at 11 o'clock.

The platinum reference has the peculiarity of having a two-tone guilloche dial in glacier blue giving it a superb color contrast. A distinctive feature on Patek Philippe's platinum cases is that a diamond is discreetly embedded on the edge of the case at 6 o'clock, which in theory can only be admired by the watch's owner.

The 5110P was marketed for a six-year period and was replaced by the 5130P in 2006.

The watch has been recently service (2023) by the manufacture and comes with its service invoice and a travel pouch.

Introduced in 2010, this reference was initially launched in white gold with a silver dial or a two-tone black and gray dial. This rather classic model saw its design evolve towards a more sporty look to targeted at a younger audience in demand of complicated watches. It is only in 2018 that these first versions were replaced by the model we have here.

With a diameter of 40mm, this model is immediately recognizable by its three arched windows at 12 o'clock for the day, date and month. The "Annual Calendar" complication takes into account, over a year, the different months in 30 or 31 days. Only one correction per year is necessary at the end of February.

The construction of the white gold case is distinguished by its concave bezel which makes the whole visually slimmer and its openworked lugs add a very modern and elegant aspect. The sunburst blue dial with black gradient brings a sober but contemporary style.

The watch comes with its box, outer-box, Patek Philippe certificate of origin, leather folder, manuals, correcting pen, tag and an extra strap.

Introduced in 2016, this watch combines two major complications: a chronograph and a worldtime display, making it an ideal choice for all travelers and watch enthusiasts.

Housed in a 39.5 mm white gold case, the CH 28-520 HU caliber (CH "chronograph"; HU "Heure universelle" world time in French) was Patek Philippe's first self-winding manufacture chronograph movement. The base of this caliber (without the Worldtime function) was used for the 5960P annual calendar chronograph from 2006.

The dark blue guilloché dial also features several rings: a city display, a graduated ring for the minute track and a 24-hour disc with day/night indication. This allows the user to read the time around the world at a glance. A particularly useful function for those who travel and/or work with international teams.

The 5930G combines classic elements such as baton hour markers, reworked dauphine hands and a guilloché dial with a more contemporary case, making it the perfect choice for those who appreciate fine watchmaking and want a versatile, elegant timepiece.
