The Datejust was the first self-winding watch to display the date in an aperture on the dial, changing instantly at midnight to ensure the date was always ‘just’. With its timeless design, perfect time legibility, date window and self-winding movement, this model has remained one of the most popular Rolex watches since its launch in 1945.

Dials in natural stone, such as **Onyx**, began to be manufactured by Stern Frères in the early 1970s thanks to the development of the ultrasonic drilling technique. Rolex, a loyal customer of Stern, was among the first to use these dials in its watches, notably in the Datejust model with four-digit references such as the 1600 featured here. These dials only began to be fitted to Day-Dates at the end of the 1970s, with the introduction of five-digit references such as the 18038.

This model from 1977 has a superb Onyx dial with unrivalled depth. The smooth bezel on this reference combines perfectly with the smooth dial, making this model particularly attractive. We are fortunate to be able to present you with this magnificent timepiece that leaves no one indifferent.

Under the dial is the calibre 1570, with stop seconds for precise adjustment, which has a power reserve of approximately 48 hours.

The watch comes with a Rolex service guarantee card for a complete service in May 2024.
