One of the most significant piece for Rolex, highly collectible and a perfect combo between sportiveness and luxuriousness.

The Rolex “Cosmograph” was launched in 1963 for racing drivers and the signature “Daytona” appears one year later as the company became sponsor of the annual 24 Hours of Daytona race, in Daytona Beach, Florida. 

Concerning the presented model, the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona ref. 16520 was launched in 1988 by being completely redesigned from its predecessor with a larger case of 40mm and a sapphire crystal that increase the water resistant at up to 100m. At this time, it became the first automatic chronograph of the company with the caliber 4030. Interestingly, the automatic movement was not from Rolex but was based on the famous El Primero caliber from Zenith initially designed in 1969 after a race between several manufacturer to design the first ever automatic chronograph movement. Rolex modified the movement to, among others, increase the power reserve and lower the frequency.

This particular example belongs to the “A series” from 2000 and features a Luminova dial which is consistent with the late production of this reference. 

To top it all off, this watch comes as with its box, outer-box and original Rolex warranty, initially delivered in Japan.
