The Rolex Explorer II was introduced in 1971 and was designed to meet the needs of cave explorers and individuals working in environments where the 24-hour hand was useful for distinguishing between day and night.

The Rolex Explorer reference 1655 was launched in 1971 and remained in production until 1985. It was the first Explorer II model, with an orange 24-hour hand.

It was designed to meet the needs of cave explorers, speleologists and people working in environments where the 24-hour hand was useful for distinguishing day from night.

During the course of its production, this model was fitted with various types of dial, which were classified according to different 'Mark' grades. Our model is fitted with a **Mark V** dial, distinguished by a wider, higher Rolex crown and the words “**T SWISS < 25 T**” on the lower edge of the dial in a large, without serif font. 

Commonly known as “**Freccione**” (“arrow” in Italian), it received its nickname from Italian collectors over the years. This is a very unusual and unique Rolex in style, with alternating luminescent markers, a bright orange 24-hour hand and white hands.

The watch comes with a box, the original Rolex warranty and an expertise certificate from 41Watch Geneva.

The Rolex Explorer reference 1655 was launched in **1971** and remained in production until 1985. It was the first Explorer II model, with a bright orange 24-hour hand.

It was designed to meet the needs of cave explorers, speleologists and people working in environments where the 24-hour hand was useful for distinguishing day from night.

Over its production span, this model has been fitted with different types of dial, which have been classified in different 'Marks'. Our model is fitted with a **Mark IV** dial, distinguished by a narrower and taller Rolex coronet and "**T SWISS < 25 T**" on the lower edge of the dial in a serif font. The Rolex Explorer II was designed to meet the needs of cave explorers, speleologists and people working in environments where the 24-hour hand was useful for distinguishing day from night. The first model reference 1655 launched in 1971 and remained in production until 1985, recognizable by its orange 24-hour hand.

The model we have here, reference 16570, was introduced in 1989 until 2011. Over the course of its production, this model has had 3 different types of dial, corresponding to the type of luminescent material used. The first generation featured tritium with the words “SWISS - T < 25” under the index at 6 o'clock until 1998. Rolex then adopted LumiNova, which is color-stable, non-fading and non-radioactive, and the wording under the 6 o'clock index became “Swiss”. Only one year later, in 1999, the latest generation, the one presented here, bears the words “Swiss Made” and indicates the presence of Super-LumiNova in place of LumiNova.

This model is the only one in the professional range with a white dial, hence the nickname “Polar”. It is equipped with the Rolex caliber 3185, an automatic GMT movement with quick-date function and a power reserve of around 50 hours.

The watch is delivered full set with box, outer-box, certificate of origin, manuals, tags and bezel protector.
