Folding Clasp

The first Rolex with a second time zone was launched in 1954 under the reference Rolex GMT-Master 6542. This watch was developed in collaboration with the American airline Pan Am to meet the needs of pilots who crossed several time zones in a single trip.

Unveiled in 1981, the reference 16750 had a short production run of eight years, making it much rarer than the reference 1675, which was produced for 20 years. The distinctive feature of this reference is the quick date adjustment, an important function made possible by the introduction of the new caliber 3075. 

The term “transitional” used for this model comes from the significant variations in the dial that occurred throughout its production: matte to glossy dials.
The early versions, as seen here, have the same matte dial as the later 1675s, a black dial with tritium-painted hour markers and the text “Oyster Perpetual” under “Rolex.” 
Around 1984/85 and for a short period, a glossy dark black dial appeared with applied white gold hour markers and the text “Oyster Perpetual” under “Rolex.” 
Shortly thereafter, the same glossy dial featured the word “Date” in the text “Oyster Perpetual Date” under “Rolex,” as on modern versions of the GMT collection.

Matte dials were often replaced with glossy dials during servicing, making them all the more rare.

Launched in 1955, the Rolex GMT-Master introduces a second hour hand (the “GMT” hand) to indicate a second time zone by adjusting its rotatable 24-hour bezel. 

The reference 16700 appears in 1988 equipped with a sapphire crystal which replace the older plexiglass crystal on the 16750. It was the last of the GMT-Master collection which was discontinued in 1999 to make room for the GMT-Master 2 ref. 16710 produced until 2005.

The watch comes with its box, 1994 Rolex original warranty, 2004 service warranty card and a manual.

The first Rolex with a second time zone was launched in 1954 under the reference Rolex GMT-Master 6542. This watch was developed in collaboration with the American airline Pan Am to meet the needs of pilots who crossed several time zones in a single trip.

The model reference 1675, introduced in 1959, marked the beginning of a long reign, as it was produced until 1980.
During the course of its production, this model was fitted with various types of dial, which were classified according to different 'Mark' grades. Our model is equipped with a **Mark 5B** dial, distinguished by a narrower, taller Rolex logo than previous versions, and by a singular typography.

The caliber 1575 has a balance speed of 19,800 vph, a power reserve of 48 hours and is not equipped with a quick date-setting function, an improvement that will arrive with the next generation of the caliber 3075. The use of caliber 1575 is recognizable by the order of the hands on the dial, with the GMT hand placed below the hour hand.

The watch is delivered with box, Rolex certificate of origin and 41Watch Geneva certificate of expertise.
