Rolex

Launched in 1956, the Day-Date was the first watch to simultaneously display the day and date through an opening in the dial. Rolex has never shied away from its association with influential personalities, including a number of presidents, which earned this model its nickname.

With a diameter of 36mm, reference 18039 was produced between **1977 and 1989**. A wide variety of dial configurations were offered at the time, but all were now flat, unlike the domed dials present on the earlier reference 1803. 

The most useful improvement for this reference was the addition of a quick date-setting function via the crown, and the addition of a sapphire crystal to guarantee greater resistance and water-resistance. This technical advance was made possible by the new caliber 3055, replacing the 1555 used in the previous generation.

Our model features a rare blue dial with railway track minute track around the circumference, contrasting perfectly with the white gold of the case and bracelet.

As soon as this model was released, Rolex offered a choice of 25 different languages for the day display, English of course being the most commonly used worldwide.

Introduced in 1956, it was the first wristwatch to display both the date and the day of the week in a window on the dial. Made exclusively from precious metals, it has always been synonymous with luxury, elegance and prestige.

With a diameter of 36mm, reference 18028 was produced between 1978 and 1989. This model, with its **smooth bezel**, is particularly rare. A wide variety of dial configurations were offered at the time, including some in semi-precious stone or wood, but all were now flat, unlike the domed dials present on the older reference 1803. Others were equipped with highly colored lacquered dials, the famous “**Stella**” dials. 

The name comes from a company called Stella, which supplied Rolex dialmakers with the special lacquer and gloss pigment used to make these dials. As these dials were produced over several decades, the colors and shades vary considerably. The example we have is bright red, creating a superb contrast with the yellow gold case.

Over the course of production, 4 types of dial have been produced, and the model we have here features a **4th** and last **generation** dial, recognizable by the chemin de fer minute track with Roman numerals signalling every five minutes.

The 2 most useful improvements for this reference were the addition of a sapphire crystal to guarantee greater water-resistance, and the quick date-setting function via the crown. This technical advance was made possible by the new 3055 caliber, replacing the 1555 caliber used in the previous generation.

As soon as this model was released, Rolex offered a choice of 25 different languages for the day display, English being the most common, but our model also features Italian.

The first Royal Oak ref. 5402 designed by the famous Gérald Genta was introduced in 1972. When it came out, it surprised with its unique design, its higher price than the gold models and its imposing 39 mm size for the time, hence the nickname “Jumbo”.

As for the 15202, it didn't arrive until 2000, with its transparent caseback revealing the 2121 caliber, but it wasn't until 2012, for the model's 40th anniversary, that this reference took up the design of the iconic 5402, notably with the placement of the AP logo at 6 o'clock and the disappearance of the small minute track around the circumference of the dial, like the model we have here.

This 39 mm model is the Royal Oak designed for true purists. It has a minimalist design, with a dial featuring a “petite tapisserie” motif and just two hands and the date.  On the wrist, its slim, elegant 8.1 profile makes it a watch of exceptional balance and perfect proportions. On the back, the sapphire crystal caseback reveals the movement and its finely decorated rotor.

Created in 1970, the caliber 2121 is a derivative of the caliber 2120 (1967) and was for many years the world's thinnest self-winding mechanical movement with central rotor and date. It has a power reserve of around 40 hours.

The Chronograph model appeared in 1997 with reference 25860ST to mark the 25th anniversary of Royal Oak. With a diameter of 39 mm like the iconic “Jumbo”, it is equipped with caliber 2385, the finest automatic chronograph movement at the time.

It takes its nickname from the famous Russian chess player Garry Kasparov, who regularly wore this model in its steel version.

The model available here, reference 26300ST, was introduced in 2008 to replace the 25860ST. Although aesthetically similar, this new model features a new case and a different push-button system. The blue dial features a large tapestry motif, the color of which contrasts perfectly with the applied hour-markers and white hands for perfect legibility. 
Initially offered on a steel bracelet, the model we have here is fitted with an Audemars Piguet black rubber strap for a sporty look reminiscent of the Offshore models and unrivalled comfort.

The 2385 caliber, based on the Frédéric Piguet 1185, has a power reserve of around 40 hours.

The watch comes with an extract from the Audemars Piguet archives confirming the original blue color of the dial.

Introduced in 1932 with ref. 96, the Calatrava collection was designed in the spirit of the Bauhaus aesthetic, emphasizing simplicity, elegance and functionality. It is considered by many to be the most elegant and timeless classic watch ever created, distinguished by sleek dials, elegant hands and balanced cases. 

The ref. 5127 was available in two series: the first from 2005 to 2008 equipped with the caliber 315 SC, then a second series from 2010 to 2012 with the caliber 324SC. 

This model, the successor to ref. 5107 introduced in 2002, features a more modern case with crown protectors that takes up the features of the case of the Worldtime model ref. 5110 introduced in 2000.

The model we have here is in 18-carat rose gold (hence the designation “5127**R**” for rose gold at Patek Philippe) and has an opaline dial with applied hour-markers and dauphine hands.  

On the back, through the transparent screw-down caseback, the calibre 324 self-winding mechanical movement can be seen, offering high precision and a 48-hour power reserve.

While retaining the timeless features of the Calatrava collection, this model succeeds in bringing a more modern design to the case, making it the perfect choice for those who appreciate understated elegance.

Introduced in 1972, the first Royal Oak ref. 5402 was designed by one of our most prolific watchmakers, Gerald Genta. Inspired by a scuba diving helmet and designed in one night, this model had no precedent at the time: a 39 mm steel case that earned it the nickname “Jumbo”, and its impressive price tag of CHF 3,650 - more than ten times the price of a Rolex Submariner.

Parallel to the production of the iconic Royal Oak, the **8638ST** was the second reference produced from 1976 onwards; a scaled-down version of the 5402 with a 29mm case and automatic movement. Named “**Royal Oak II**”, some versions even bear this engraving on the back.

 The octagonal case shape and integrated bracelet make the watch larger than its dimensions would suggest, while retaining the proportions of its iconic original design and the famous grey dial with its “Petite Tapisserie” motif. 

A total of 1,456 pieces of the reference 8638ST were produced, mainly between 1976 and 1980.

This model is equipped with the automatic caliber 2062, which has a power reserve of approximately 38 hours.

The watch comes with its original box and an extract from the Audemars Piguet archives.
