Launched in 1972, the first Royal Oak ref. 5402 was designed by one of the most prolific watch designer, Gerald Genta. Inspired from a scaphander diving helmet and drawed in one night, this model has no precedent at this period : a 39mm steel case which gave the nickname “Jumbo” to this model and its impressive pricing of 3,750 CHF, more than ten times the price of a Rolex Submariner.

Alongside production of the iconic Royal Oak, a reduced-sized version of this watch was launched around 1976/1977, ref. 4100. A few generation apart, reference 14790 was produced from 1992 to 2006. 

This example manufactured in 2001 displays a "Mark 2" dial, consistent with the period, recognizable by the "Small Tapisserie" dial and the typography of "Audemars Piguet". 

The major aspect of the model is undoubtedly its **salmon dial**.
The salmon color appeared in 1992 with the Royal Oak Jumbo model reference 14802, marking the 20th anniversary of the Royal Oak. It also appeared in Royal Oak Mid-Size version reference 14800 introduced in 1994.
At the time, a few privileged clients were able to separately order, from Audemars Piguet or official retailers, a salmon dial separately to fit their 14790ST while keeping the original dark dial with which the watch was originally sold.

The watch comes as a full set with its box, outer-box, Audemars Piguet certificate of origin and the original dark blue dial.

The Rolex Datejust ref. 1601 is one of the most iconic vintage watches. A well-proportioned 36 mm steel case, the fluted bezel in 14k white gold and the famous Jubilee bracelet.

The Datejust was the first self-winding watch to show the date in a window on the dial that jumps out instantly at midnight to ensure that the date is "right" at all times. With its timeless design, perfect time legibility, date window and self-winding movement, this model has remained one of the most popular Rolex watches since its launch in 1945.

This **1972** model has a beautiful, rare **black** "Pie-pan" dial; most of the production was done with silver dials. 

In the 1970s, the Association pour la Promotion Industrielle de l'Or (or 'APRIOR'), which brought together a number of watchmakers, took the initiative of registering a symbol, the Greek letter **Sigma 'σ'**, to identify the use of gold in the materials of a watch. Affixed to the dial at 6 o'clock, this symbol means that the indexes are made of solid gold. A detail often appreciated by collectors.

Beneath the dial is the calibre 1570, with stop seconds for precise adjustment, and a power reserve of around 48 hours.

The Rolex Submariner is an icon. Certainly the most famous diver's watch.

Originally designed in 1953 for work and deep-sea diving, the Submariner's reliability and timeless proportions make it, for the most part, the tool watch par excellence that has become, over the years, the benchmark among all diving watches.

This model, reference 1680, is the first in the Submariner collection to be equipped with a date function. 

This particular example has a very rare original Mk 3 tropical dial, recognisable by the typography specific to these versions. The original black dial has taken on a superb, homogenous brown colour over the years, making this watch a one-off. A true collectible watch.

Equipped with calibre 1570, this movement has a 48-hour power reserve and is perfectly reliable for everyday use.

Rolex, known for its association with influential personalities, including many presidents, gave its nickname to this model. Reference 18238, with a diameter of 36 mm, was produced from 1989 to 2000. Unlike the pie-pan dials of reference 1803, all the dials of the 18238 are now flat. The introduction of a dual function for rapidly setting the date and day by means of the crown is a significant improvement for this reference. This technological improvement has been made possible by the new calibre 3155, which succeeds the calibre 3055 of the previous generation.

At the time of its release, Rolex offered a remarkable choice of 25 different languages for the day display, with English being the most widely spoken language in the world.

The model we have here has a superb black dial with a sunray finish set with 8 brilliant-cut diamonds and 2 baguette-cut diamonds at 6 and 9 o'clock. This "no lume" dial has no luminescent material at each hour or on the hands.

This watch comes with its original Rolex international warranty and its original green tag.

Launched in 1956, the Day-Date was the first watch to display the day and date simultaneously through an aperture in the dial. Rolex has never made a secret of its association with influential personalities, including a number of presidents, a fact that has earned this model its nickname.
With a diameter of 36mm, reference 18239 was produced between **1989 and 2000**. A wide variety of dial configurations were offered at the time, including some in hard stone or even [wood](https://www.41watch.com/en/accueil/891-rolex-daydate-or-jaune-cadran-bois) (as our colleagues at 41Watch recently had), but all were now flat, unlike the domed dials present on the earlier reference 1803. 

The most useful improvement for this reference was the addition of a double function for rapidly setting the date and day using the crown. This technical advance was made possible by the new calibre 3155, which replaced the calibre 3055 used in the previous generation.

As soon as this model came out, Rolex offered a choice of 25 different languages for the day display, English obviously being the most commonly used around the world.

Our model has a rare black dial - the majority of production was silvered - with the inscription **"Swiss Made"** at 6 o'clock. This feature is only found from 1999 onwards and therefore only available for one year, indicating luminescent coating for index and hands, which match perfectly with our model produced in 1999. A dial with this inscription and an earlier production date would indicate that the original dial had been replaced during service.

The Patek Philippe Calatrava ref. 3579 is a watch in a class of its own. This model stands out as a significant departure from Patek Philippe's typical design language of the time. It is perhaps most evident in the release of the Nautilus just 2 years following the discontinuation of the ref. 3579.

Released in 1969 and produced for over a short five year run until 1974, speculations imply that this model were specifically crafted for the Japanese market, with an estimated 200 examples having been manufactured and distributed over time, though this hasn't been officially confirmed. 

Ref. 3579 features a 34mm cushion-shaped case and have only been produced in stainless steel, a metal that has rarely ever been used by Patek Philippe over the course of their history. Measuring 38mm from lug to lug, its proportions create a blend of contemporary and classic appeal, whilst the C-shape, mixing polished lugs and brushed side, make it feel larger on the wrist than its dimensions would suggest. The case housed the manual caliber 23-300 which is equipped with both an overcoil hairspring and a free-spring Gyromax balance.

The watch is delivered with its Patek Philippe extract from the archives (date of sale 1973).

The first Rolex model equipped with a quartz movement was the reference 5100, introduced in 1970 and produced in limited quantities until 1972. This model was equipped with the Beta-21 calibre, designed by the Centre Electronique Horloger (CEH), a consortium of around 20 Swiss watch manufacturers, including Rolex, to create the first Swiss quartz movement. 

As Rolex wanted to develop their own movement in-house, the first Oysterquartz models did not appear until 1977 with the Datejust (calibre 5035) and Day-Date (calibre 5055). The model we have here, the Oysterquartz Day-Date, reference 19018N, has a 36mm case in yellow gold with an integrated bracelet with flat links and a fluted bezel. Unlike the 19018 version, this model has no chamfers on the lugs and a vertical brushed polish on the upper part.

The calibre 5055 has a 32 khz oscillator (4 times more than the Beta-21) to compensate for the effects of temperature and guarantee an accuracy of less than one minute per year, far superior to that of all Rolex mechanical movements at the time. In addition, this calibre has a hacking-second function and dual date and day setting, which did not appear on automatic calibres until 1988.

The watch comes with a Rolex travel pouch, its Rolex certificate of origin (date of sale 1987), a 2009 Rolex service guarantee card and manuals.

The first Audemars Piguet Royal Oak with a perpetual calendar complication came out in 1983, with reference 5554 (later 25554). 

Introduced only a few years later, the reference **25654** was produced in 800 pieces in all alloys. The steel version was only produced in 272 pieces.

The model we have here has a smooth grey dial of the first generation "**MK1**", recognizable thanks to the typography "Audemars Piguet Automatic". This perfectly symmetrical and balanced dial indicates, in addition to the hours and minutes, the date, the day, the month and the moon phase. 

With a diameter of **39mm** like the iconic "Jumbo" and a thickness of just over 9mm, this model has ideal and comfortable proportions. The caliber 2120/2800, with a power reserve of approximately 40 hours, was, at the time, the thinnest automatic movement with perpetual calendar complication.

Produced until mid-1990, it will be replaced by the reference 25810 - a limited edition of 120 pieces in pink gold with a pink dial - presented in 1995 to mark the 120th anniversary of Audemars Piguet and which features a leap year indicator. This innovation was made possible by the 2120/2802 caliber that went into regular production.

This watch comes with its rotating box and an Audemars Piguet certificate of authenticity.

The Rolex Cosmograph was launched in 1963 for racing drivers and the "Daytona" signature appeared a year later when Rolex became a sponsor of the Daytona 24-hour race in Daytona Beach, Florida. 

The reference 6239 is one of the most important watches for Rolex as it was the first reference to have the word "Daytona" appear on its dial. This model was also the first to be equipped with a steel tachometric bezel, which distinguished it from its predecessor, which had a graduated scale directly printed on the dial.

In 1965, Rolex introduced a new choice of dials with a different design to the more traditional dials, which Rolex called "exotic dials". History has since left its mark which have been given an unofficial nickname, the "Paul Newman" dials.

The model we have here, entirely original, dates from 1968, has a Mk 1 'Inverted Panda' dial, a Mk 1 200 bezel, Type 2 hands and a calibre 722-1. 
This timepiece has been fully expertised by our independent expert Fabrice Guéroux, and a full appraisal booklet is supplied with it.

To top it all off, this watch was serviced by Rolex's Heritage department in 2022 and therefore comes with its service booklet and the box supplied at the end of the service.

The Rolex Explorer reference 1655 was launched in **1971** and remained in production until 1985. It was the first Explorer II model, with a bright orange 24-hour hand.

It was designed to meet the needs of cave explorers, speleologists and people working in environments where the 24-hour hand was useful for distinguishing day from night.

Over its production span, this model has been fitted with different types of dial, which have been classified in different 'Marks'. Our model is fitted with a **Mark IV** dial, distinguished by a narrower and taller Rolex coronet and "**T SWISS < 25 T**" on the lower edge of the dial in a serif font. A version with a Mk II dial was recently sold at 41 Watch Paris, and can be viewed by following [this link](https://www.41watch.com/en/vintage-watch/1138-rolex-explorer-1655-freccione-steve-mcqueen).

Commonly known as "**Freccione**" ("arrow" in Italian), it got its nickname from Italian collectors over time. It is a very unusual and unique Rolex in style, with alternating luminescent markers, a bright orange 24-hour hand and white hands.

The watch comes with a **Rolex service warranty card** from **2021** and the old crystal glass replaced at that time.

Launched in 1956, the Day-Date was the first watch to simultaneously display the day and date through an opening in the dial. Rolex has never shied away from its association with influential personalities, including a number of presidents, which has earned this model its nickname.

With a diameter of 36mm, reference 1803 was produced from the early 1960s to 1977. It was the first generation of Day-Date to be produced for more than 15 years. The main feature of this model is its domed “Pie-pan” dial and domed Plexiglas crystal. This dial, rarer than the classic versions, does not feature tritium luminescent dots, indicating that this watch may have been intended for the Asian market. The solid hands also lack the tritium corresponding to the model's specificity.

The Rolex caliber 1555 has a power reserve of approximately 42 hours and is not equipped with the crown-operated quick-date system, a feature that appears with the following reference 18038 and caliber 3055.

The “President” bracelet fitted to this watch was introduced when the model was launched in 1956. 

On this particular model, the dial is “no lume”, i.e. there is no luminescent material on either the dial or the hands, indicating that this watch was intended for the Asian market.

As soon as this model was launched, Rolex offered a choice of 25 different languages for the day display, English being the most commonly used worldwide.

The Daytona model is one of the most iconic Rolex model. Introduced in 1988, this reference is important being the first equipped with an automatic caliber based on the famous Zenith El Primero one. Its diameter of 40mm and its watertightness increased to 100m was a revolution at that time.
